Pioneer Village presents Living History Days at Shingle Creek the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event features re-enactors, pioneer life demonstrations, and themed activities each month.
October’s theme will be Fall Harvest and activities will include a scavenger hunt and games for children. In observance of Native American History Month, November’s event will feature an authentic Seminole camp and Seminole life demonstrations. Guests can celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas at the village in December and participate in a pioneer ornament-making activity.
Pioneer Village tells the story of Osceola County’s early settlers and their lives from the late 1800s to early 1900s. In addition to three original family homes, the village includes historic structures such as a schoolhouse, general store, church, train depot, an original citrus packing plant, a Seminole settlement, and a cow camp like those used by Florida cracker cowmen.
The village is an outdoor venue spread over 10 acres, giving guests plenty of space to practice social distancing. Admission on Living History Day is $8 for adults and includes admission for two children under age 13.
Pioneer Village participates in Museums for All, a national program that supports those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits. With the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, adults will receive admission of $2 per person, and children under 13 will be admitted free. Up to four people may be admitted using the discount.
Pioneer Village is open Tuesday – Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children 4-12. Children under 3 are admitted free.
Guided tours are provided on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. at no additional charge. Tours may be scheduled in advance on other days. Guests must wear a mask while on guided tours and in enclosed spaces.
The village is operated by Osceola History, a non-profit organization, that collects and preserves the county’s history and provides educational, research, and recreational opportunities to foster an understanding and enjoyment of the area’s cultural and natural heritage through museum displays, demonstrations, interpretive programs, and special events for residents and visitors.
