New Harry Potter Coaster

So it’s official – The Wizarding World will get a new thrill ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, but lose an old favorite in the process. “Dragon Challenge” will close for good Sept 5th. Originally called “Dueling Dragons”,  and offering riders on 2 separate coasters a ‘toe to toe’ near miss experience, it’s name was changed when Harry and friends (and enemies) came to town — its replacement will open sometime in 2019.

Universal’s official announcement lacked any real detail and notably didn’t include a name for the new addition. Universal did however state it would include interaction with favorite “Potter” characters and that Universal Creative is collaborating with Warner Bros. and its design team, just as it has with previous Wizarding World attractions in Universal parks in the USA & Japan.

“This ride is going to redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world,” a post on Universal Orlando’s official parks blog said.
