So precious! A beautiful baby western lowland gorilla was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this week. Lucky visitors may already catch a glimpse of mom Kashata and baby Grace at the theme park’s Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail – be patient and you never know!
The infant has been named Grace by Disney’s animal care experts after the GRACE gorilla sanctuary in the Democratic Republic of Congo. (GRACE there stands for Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education center.)
Kashata and Grace’s father Gino were chosen to breed through the Species Survival Plan that’s overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The whole family troop celebrated with they call a “special enrichment tactic.” And visitors were able to buy a specialty cupcake for the occasion at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in the Africa section of the park.
