The world-renown Fish Bowl Underwater Observatory floats in the main spring and allows up-close views of the natural wonder spring, including manatees and an astounding number of fish. When Homosassa Springs was a popular train stop in the early 1900s, passengers could picnic and take a dip in the Spring while train cars were loaded with cedar, crabs, fish and spring water.
The park’s newest adventure experience, guided clear-bottom kayak tours, takes passengers gliding over calm, crystal-clear waters inhabited by manatees, fresh water and saltwater fish and other natural wildlife, no experience required. The water stays warm and clear, making it easy to see straight through the kayak. During the colder months, manatees gather in the spring for warmth, and it’s common to spot them swimming slowly beneath the kayak.
The quiet movement of the kayak allows passengers to observe the manatees without disturbing them as they rest and move through the spring. Surrounded by natural Florida scenery, the experience feels peaceful and unhurried. It’s a simple but special way to connect with nature and see manatees in their natural winter habitat.
