It’ll cost you a few bucks to enter this oasis, but it’s worth it. Washington Oaks Gardens State Park offers a relaxing stroll around rose and camellia-laden gardens, towering oak trees, and reflection ponds. The formal garden area has paved pathways, while the rest of the trails are lightly packed with dirt. The stunning gardens and massive oaks make this one of the most beautiful spots to go for a walk in Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches.
Betty Steflik Memorial Preserve in Flagler Beach
Boardwalk or trail—you decide. Betty Steflik Memorial Preserve in Flagler Beach offers both an elevated wooden boardwalk and unpaved hiking trails. The boardwalk leads you through a tidal marsh thronged with mangroves and out over the Intracoastal Waterway. Along the way, you can spot a variety of birds, dolphins, manatees, and more. We love walking the boardwalk both in the morning, when it’s extra quiet, or right before dusk for vibrant sunsets. For a longer jaunt, continue beyond the end of the boardwalk and onto the unpaved trails. Of note: there are several benches along the boardwalk for those who might need a break.
Waterfront Park in Palm Coast
An easy, peaceful walk in the heart of Palm Coast. The path at this city park winds along the Intracoastal Waterway, affording walkers picturesque views. Be on the lookout for wildlife—manatees and dolphins are often spotted lolling about these waters. We also love ogling the beautiful homes that line the banks as well as the magnificent yachts and sailboats that glide by. Linear Park/ St. Joe Walkway in Palm Coast
Chirps and warbles provide a soothing soundtrack to your walk around Linear Park and St. Joe Walkway in Palm Coast. This stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway Trail is designated as a Great Florida Birding Trail by the Audubon Society, with over 40 different species of birds at times. The St. Joe Walkway trail is located within Linear Park and is paved and shaded by a canopy of trees. We love the Palm Coast trail system because walkers can easily extend their stroll thanks to the interconnectible pathways.
Princess Place Preserve in Palm Coast
Known as the jewel of Flagler County’s park system, Princess Place Preserve is an idyllic setting for a walk. Soak up old Florida vibes as you meander around green meadows, salt marshes, and hardwood hammocks. Several unpaved, gentle loop trails run between .6 and 2.5 miles long. Be sure to double-check the recent weather when choosing footwear as the ground can be sodden at times.
