Fall in Orlando: Airboats, Attractions & Halloween Fun

Happy First Days of Fall from Orlando!

Fall may look a little different in Central Florida. The palm trees aren’t suddenly turning orange, and there’s a good chance you’ll still be wearing shorts — but that doesn’t mean Orlando doesn’t know how to celebrate the season! And Gray Line Orlando knows them all.

As the temperatures slowly begin to ease, spending time outdoors gets even better, and Orlando’s calendar fills with food festivals, Halloween events, pumpkin patches, and seasonal celebrations. It’s also a fantastic time to venture beyond the theme parks and discover some of the natural beauty, neighborhoods, and experiences that make Central Florida such a unique destination.

Whether you’re planning an Orlando vacation this fall or already here and looking for something new to experience, we’ve rounded up a few of our fall favorites around Orlando.

Get Outside: Take a Florida Airboat Ride

airboat ride

One of the best things about fall in Florida is getting outside — and there aren’t many experiences more quintessentially Florida than an airboat ride.

Leave the busy attractions area behind and head out onto Central Florida’s wetlands, where wide-open landscapes replace roller coasters and the soundtrack becomes the rush of an airboat across the water. Along the way, keep your eyes open for alligators, turtles, wading birds and some of the other wildlife that calls this part of Florida home.

Two popular options are Wild Florida and Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures, both offering visitors the chance to experience Florida’s natural side. You can choose from different airboat ride lengths and experiences, while Gray Line Orlando also offers tour options that include round-trip transportation from the Orlando tourism area — particularly handy if you’re visiting without a rental car.

Fall is an especially nice time to experience the wetlands. The Florida sunshine isn’t going anywhere, but as the intense heat of summer begins to ease, spending a few hours outdoors becomes much more inviting.

And yes, sunscreen is definitely still required — this is fall in Florida, after all!

Fall for Orlando: City Sights & Scenic Canals

There’s much more to Orlando than its famous theme parks, and fall is a great time to discover some of the city’s local neighborhoods and hidden gems.

Just north of Downtown Orlando, you’ll find Winter Park, known for its tree-lined streets, beautiful homes, lakes, and the boutiques, cafés, and restaurants of Park Avenue. It’s the kind of place that’s perfect for slowing down for a few hours — particularly as Central Florida begins to enjoy those first hints of cooler weather.

One of the best ways to experience Winter Park is aboard the Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour. The one-hour cruise travels across the Winter Park Chain of Lakes and through narrow, tree-lined canals, passing waterfront homes, lush gardens, and Rollins College along the way.

The Scenic Boat Tour is also one of the highlights of Gray Line Orlando’s Orlando City Tour, which combines Winter Park with more of Orlando’s city sights and gives visitors an opportunity to discover the destination beyond the attractions corridor.

It’s a wonderfully relaxed way to spend a fall morning and see a side of Orlando that many visitors never get the chance to experience.

Fall Fun & Spooky Season — Orlando Style

seasonal fun

Fall also brings some of the year’s biggest events to Central Florida, making it a great time to mix a little seasonal fun into your Orlando vacation plans.

Foodies can eat their way around the world at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, while Halloween fans have plenty to choose from. For serious scares, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort transforms select nights into an after-dark experience filled with haunted houses, scare zones and live entertainment. Families can enjoy a much less frightening celebration at SeaWorld Orlando’s Halloween Spooktacular, with trick-or-treating, costumes and kid-friendly seasonal fun during the daytime.

For something with a little more local Florida flavor, Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures gets into the spirit with its own Halloween festivities, while pumpkin patches, fall festivals and seasonal events pop up across Orlando and Central Florida throughout the season.

That’s what makes fall in Orlando so much fun. You can start the day exploring Florida’s wetlands on an airboat, cruise the scenic canals of Winter Park, sample your way around a food festival and finish the night surrounded by Halloween thrills.

With outdoor adventures, seasonal celebrations and some of Orlando’s biggest special events all happening at once, fall is a fantastic time to experience more of what Central Florida has to offer.
