Theme Park Insider Award Winners Announced…

Orlando Attractions Update – SeaWorld’s Mako roller coaster, Universal’s Portofino Bay Hotel and Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort were the Orlando-area winners in this year’s Theme Park Insider Awards.

Mako, the shark-inspired thrill ride that debuted last month, was tabbed as best new roller coaster according to ratings by the Theme Park Insider website. “New” attractions, for these awards, are those that opened to the public between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016.

Portofino Bay won for best hotel for the fourth consecutive year and the sixth time overall.

V&A repeated for the top honor as best hotel restaurant.

Tokyo DisneySea won for best theme park for the fifth year in a row.

Other Disney-related winners were Shanghai Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure (best new attraction), Disney California Adventure’s “Frozen Live at the Hyperion” (best new show) and Magellan’s at Tokyo DisneySea (best table-service restaurant).

The Three Broomsticks restaurant at Universal Studios Hollywood won for best quick-serve restaurant. Theme Park Insider Editor Robert Niles noted that the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter eatery included items from the Orlando version of Three Broomsticks and the Leaky Cauldron, Universal Orlando’s restaurant that won this category last year.
